Meet your new NHS assistant principals!

Head principal Chad Nulik and assistant principal Derek Bristol will be joined by two new faces this year. Learn more about them:


Emily Snyder, Assistant Principal

USD 373 announces the hire of Emily Snyder as an assistant principal at Newton High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

Ms. Snyder comes to Newton from Maize USD 266 where she has taught  since 2018, teaching subjects such as World and US History, Law Public Safety and Security, and Geography.

Previous to that, she worked at Valley Center Middle School and Hugoton Middle/High School. 

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Kansas State University, a Master of Science in Education from Fort Hays State University and a Master of Science in School Leadership from Baker University. 

Ms. Snyder likes the Newton community because it reminds her of a larger version of her hometown of Hugoton, KS.

“It’s got a good personal feel. I’m really excited to get back to that community atmosphere!”

In her free time, Ms. Snyder enjoys traveling and collecting new country stamps in her passport, as well as watching Supercross, Motocross and NFL football.

Julie Tucker, Assistant Principal

USD 373 announces the hire of Julie Tucker as an assistant principal at Newton High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

Mrs. Tucker comes to Newton from Wichita USD 259 where she has served as an interrelated special education teacher and science teacher, with in-depth knowledge of the student IEP process. She most recently served as an equity champion within her district, where she contributed to discussions about achieving equity within the district. 

She holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and three Master’s degrees, including in Special Education, Educational Administration, and Curriculum and Instruction.

“I am looking forward to building relationships with staff, students and their families as well as community members to ensure the most positive educational experience. I am excited about the opportunities that Newton High has to offer its students and can't wait to be a part of such a wonderful community,” Mrs. Tucker said.

Outside of school, Mrs. Tucker and her husband enjoy time with their children Blake and Bryce, going to the lake or Chiefs games and attending comedy shows and concerts.
