Senior Hannah Tate Wins State KSPA Journalism Award
LAWRENCE, May 2, 2025 -- The Kansas Scholastic Press Association is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 KSPA State Contests, which awarded the best student journalism from nearly 1,300 entries gathered from around the state. Students were put to the test as they demonstrated their writing, design, illustration, photography, video and reporting skills.
Newton High School senior Hannah Tate placed sixth in the Video Sports Promo category.
“We know this is just part of the hard work students put in all year as they learn the craft of journalism,” KSPA president-elect Barbara Tholen said. “We love celebrating their work and seeing the creativity this generation of journalists brings to each contest.”
Tate has served as executive producer of the Railer Weekly broadcast at Newton High School and will graduate in May. She is attending Northwest Missouri State University to major in Mass Communications with an emphasis in sports journalism.
“I am so proud of all the hard work Hannah has put into the broadcast program at NHS,” journalism adviser Kathryn Massaglia said. “I look forward to watching her succeed as she continues her education and career.”
